I've done *many* FTP installations for myself and clients, from my home on
both cable-modem and DSL services. I live in the southwest, and I usually
use mirrors located in other regions of the US.
I've used mirrors at Georgia Tech, Argonne National Labs in Chicago,
University of Utah, and others. On cablemodem, a 1.5~2gb installation can
take 2~3 hours. On my current DSL service, this same installation can
take 3~4 hours, at night.
Everyone's experience here is going to vary tremendously. I can envision
DIAL-up installs which could take DAYS.
