Scanner and SuSE 10

Whenever I switch my computer back on, my system seems to 'forget' that I have a scanner connected, I have to go into yast to set it up again.
My scanner is an epson perfection 2480 photo
I seem to remember that it involves the ln command but I cannot remember the command fully, basically HELP please!
