Skype on Linux is as good as any windows installation, it's just a bit more
possibilities to tweak a Linux system and all these available options can
come back and bite you (occasionally).
Echo can occur for two reasons ( mostly ),
First, you are using speakers and the microphone is to close for the eminent
echo suppression to manage.
Secondly, and the most common reason,
!! I use qamix. So this is my point of reference for this advice!
After you started qamix and ensured you are modding the right soundcard,
look at the "Capture" tab. You normally need to tick the Mic Boost box as
well as the Activate box. Some soundcards have Mix and Mic droplists. You
must use the Mic settings, not the Mix! Rise the Captue bars to a good
level and try by calling the Spype Echo Service!
Now to the echo culprit...
Switch the "Ext. Source Playback" tab. To the right, you have a Mic bar and
a corresponding Mute box. Tick this Mute box! This lever creates a
feedback of the Mic output and is what creates an annoying Echo!
For all of you with an echo problem and you refue to use qamix... Have fun
anyway! Qamix seems to be the easiest way to show this problem.
Cheers
Dan
