I've just installed today an old machine with SUSE 10 at 800x600 to connect to a Windows 2000 Terminal Server for one of our remote offices. Of course, after preaching all the benfits of LInux, I hear back a couple hours later that in rdesktop all the colors have changed (blue is pink, white is brown, etc.) and basically most text is illegible. I've been testing SUSE 10 and rdesktop for over a month now on various machines, and have seen this problem from time to time, but the colors will always revert to normal after a few minutes time. Today apparently not so.
I've searched groups to come to only four conclusions:
1) the screen power management may have set this off 2) this older computer may not be able to handle anything better than 640x480 (although it was running at 1280x1024 on my monitor at my desk just fine) 3) the video card may need upgrading 4) the monitor may not be able to handle the resolution (although it handles win2k and rdp 5.2 at a resolution greater than 800x600 just fine, so I might rule this one out, maybe)
I'm using rdesktop <server> -f to connect. I've read the man, but am not sure if any of the -b, -a, -P, or -C switches (or combination thereof) will alleviate the problem (I cannot seem to duplicate on another similar machine). Since I don't see the problem, I can't determine if any of the options change things. For what it's worth, If I remote control to the machine from within terminal services, or connect to the desktop via VNC, I see a normal desktop.
Any ideas?
Thanks- Brian
You could try rdesktop -a32 -f <server>
I've had no problems using rdesktop. .
