Linux is still locked into Nerdland and will not make any impression on
the wider market.

There's certainly a bit of truth to this... however, Linux is
continuing to grow.... and it's growth is (obviously) extending
outide the "nerdland" market.

Yep, my mother wouldn't class herself as a nerd, but since I gave her my
old laptop at Christmas with SUSE 10 installed, she hasn't touched her
Windows machine! I have to upgrade the desktop next time I go visit...

It does play MP3's as well, but she doesn't listen to music much and
doesn't own any CD's to rip - she has about half a dozen audio cassettes
of Rod Stewart and similar, but that's it. She doesn't think much of films
either, she watches East Enders and Coronation Street on TV, and that's
about it from what I can gather, the rest of the time she reads... So more
ludite
than nerd-like. :-D But she loves her Linux laptop, although she mostly
play Gnometris, she's whacked my highscore off the list, she is heading
off somewhere into the 60k at the moment!! :-O

I should also mention the Windows PC got booted once or twice a month, the
Linux laptop gets turned on for at least 1 hour a day, a major step forward
for my mother!
