Hi.
I use to have only winXP on my PC, but I would like to really learn
linux, so several days ago I instaled Suse 10.0 - I have dual bot
(WinXP + Suse) right now. I really like this distribution so far,
before I tried Slack, but what I can see - Suse is much more user
friendly, and just seems better to me. BUT since Suse is there, the
internet under the WindowsXP is gone. My PC is connected to router
(Linksys), and whenever I'm working with linux, everything is fine, I
mean internet is working, but if I would like to run Windows, and then
use the internet - I'm sorry but internet is not there. Windows says
"calble is unpluged". 8-}
It's really weird, because since linux is on my hd, I didn't do any
changes of configuration of winXP.
Anyway, under the windows the control light (of router) for the cable
that is connected to my PC, is not working. For me it seems like, linux
somehow, after its shutdown, also kills my etherned card. I have second
PC (winXP) conneted to the same router, and internet is working there
with no problems, so far ...
I'm really confused, I was asking people in diffrent groups, but nobody
even answer once.
Thank YOU for any help.
best regards
matt
I am not a Windoze user any more. However, I recently had to deal with a
similar problem at a business I am associated with. They had changed
service providers and the system was down. They have 4 WindozeXP machines.
I restarted the DSL modem, Router and all the machines. After trying
several things I called there ISP, SBC. They walked me through this on one
machine and I was able to duplicate the results on the others.
First you need to open up a command prompt. Type ifconfig (same as
Linux :~) ). The inet address should be 192.168.1.x . You will need to
access your router software interface. Open up Internet Explorer (or
whatever web browser you use) and type in the address 192.168.1.1 to get to
the router interface. If this is not the correct address locate your
routers manual, though I'm fairly certain this is correct. Once you log
into your router make sure you have the correct information in there. This
includes your login to your ISP and the password. Then click the save
button !! Now try to connect. I don't know why this would have changed
but it should fix your problem.
Hope that helps.
