Hmm, that is strange, the PS/2 keyboard works on my laptop in Grub...
Have you tried working with the legacy settings? Also, one of my mobos has
an option to enable USB keyboard support at bootup. If it is an older
motherboard, this might be a possible solution...

All of which has nothing to do with your orriginal question where you say
that your network card works under linux but not under XP.
Ok, never mind, I suspect that you have been caught up in the clasic state
where you let a problem on the PC get you flustered and then couldn't think
straight. No halm done but there's a chance for a lesson.
When ever you have an unexpected problem on any computer what ever the OS
is, the first thing you do is stop. Take your hands off the keyboard and
mouse, sit back and take a moment to let your mind get into the right mode.
Then think about what just happened, could anything you just did have been
involved with what just happened. If not, then think a little further back,
yesterday, recent days.
Now that you are in the right mode, and calm, if you have access to the logs
then start there. Even the XP logs are fairly good these days, remember
that you can still get to those logs if you only have safe-mode command
line access. Sometimes I think they log too many actions, but the fact that
it does that has helped me repair problems before, due to knock-on effects
after minor warnings before the error entry appeared. Also remember that
the error you get is not necessarily from the application/driver that has
the problem.
Just as in Linux kde/gnome can force a close of a crashed application, then
the error is given by kde/gnome and some mistake that as being the source
of the problem. XP can do the same but in a way that is more confusing for
people.
I hate to be an XP basher, but the down side of the XP log is that MS
Explorer seems to crash itself far too easily when a child application has
a problem. It's as if all the applications are in a single thread so if one
collapses the others fall too. So log messages can obscure the actual
fault. They have a debug mode which may help with hard to find faults, but
I don't know it well enough to talk about it.
They is the 'news group panic message' too. When people are in that
flustered state they will often dive into their news application and start
rambling, sometimes swearing. In reality they are just shouting help,
unfortunately the questions they ask help for at that time are nearly
always far too early in the diagnosis for any decent help to be given. So
they are given the message to go and gather information so the responder
can help them. Sometimes this works because in the time involved the poster
has started to think straight, other times it ends up in a blazing row
because the poster is flustered and the responder is getting flustered
trying to get information out of them.
But the key to it all is to stay calm. If the problem is getting you heated,
walk away, have a coffee and only come back when your relaxed and thinking
straight again. Of cause you should come into the news group if you are
stuck, but always take the time to think about the problem first so that
you can be as specific as possible with your question.
Nobody really minds what level of knowledge a poster shows, just so long as
they ask in a way that those who respond can answer them.
So anyway Warther, you have a working Linux, I put Suse amongst my personal
top three distros for home and office client users, so you should have a
good experience with it. Please take the time to do a tutorial, even a
basic tutorial, so that you can get more out of the system. Good luck with
it all.
