Hi,Adolph,
I want to use samba to share files between an Windows XP pc and a Suse
Linux pc. The two computers are connected via ethernet without
router.(peer-to-peer). I've tried some tutorials on the web but are not
adopted in my case. Most tutorials use routers I don't have router. Or
use other linuces which do not have the same configuration as suse 10.
In my try the smbd and nmbd although they were presented in the process
table in the swat interface showed that they were not running.
Please help:)
Have you configured a share?
In the config file /etc/samba/smb.conf you see some examples.
If so add a samba user with smbpasswd -a username
username must be a linux username (must be in /etc/passwd).
Now smbclient -L //localhost -U username should show the available shares.
Network topology has nothing to do with samba configurations. These tutorials make live confusing. We have just a switch between our linux box and our winXP box.
You only need to use tcp/ip as a network protocol, which winXP and Linux use to connect.
Kind regards,
