KDE Login Issue

First some background:
I have an Apple xServe running OS X 10.4.5. It is functioning as a ldap
and nfs server for all my accounts. I have a classroom of 25 Gateway
PC's. The Gateway PC's all have SUSE Linux 9.2 installed. They are set
up to authenticate the user accounts on the server using ldap version
3. The home directories are mounted by NFS. So any user can log into
the linux machines either by sitting at the linux PC's or using ssh to
connect remotely.

The problem:
I first noticed about a week ago that users can not sit at the PC's and
log in using the KDE enivironment. After entering the login information
and clicking on login the screen goes to a blank background and stays
that way. I can still login as root using KDE with no problem. However
that is a local account. The users can sit at the PC's and login using
the fvwm environment with no problems. The can also still login using
ssh with no problem. I do not see anything unusual in the error files.

If anyone could help I would appreciate it.
