User Account Password gone Missing


I have been having a lot of problems with my user account recently. I
have found that the user name is still registered but the password is
gone. I have not changed or modified this accounts' password as far as
I know.

I have been loging the user account in automatically which still works
but when I log in manually I get a password incorrect notification.

Root account is fine

Is there a way I can reset the user password without knowing the
current one?

Bit stuck with this it makes very little sense to me. Can't figure out
weather I changed it somehow which I very much doubt or if it has just
been corrupted.
