Cable Router won't change back IP address

I have my Cable Router setup for dhcp. My laptop work fine until I connected
to a friends Cable Router also setup for dhcp. Now when I connect to my
network my ethernet card still has the IP address my friends Cable router
assigned it.

I tried
deleting and reinstalling the ethernet card.
ifdown the ifup
booting with out the ethernet card (it's PCMCIA), then inserting it.

Why won't SuSE release the old IP address? It had no problem releasing mine
when connecting to my friends cable router.
