No Internet, no eth0.

I trashed my system and reinstalled SUSE 10.0 from the CD's.
After a (mostly) successful installation, I can no longer
connect to the Internet.
I see no eth0, although I am certain, I had it before the
reinstallation.
I have a cable modem connected to a linksys router which
connects two computers, one is Linux only, the other Windows
only. The Windows machine connects to the Internet fine.
My feeling is this is a basic problem since I had no Internet
problem with my previous SUSE installation from the same set
of CDs.
I have reset both modem and router and rebooted the Linux
box. I removed the modem from the router, reset the modem,
and connected directly to the Linux system -- no change.
Since I cannot connect the Linux system, it's hard to show
the output of various network commands, but I will give as
much information as you guys may need. To start:
ifconfig shows eth1 and lo only.
eth1 shows an Ethernet card.
inet shows addr:192.168.1.102. Zero errors are shown.
resolv.conf is empty.
lspci shows SiS devices on all eleven lines. One of the
lines is an Ethernet controller.
route again shows two eth1 lines, one lo line and asterisks
under Gateway.
I hope someone can help. I will provide any requested info.
Thanks in advance,
Don
.
