Space. You can have a second Linux running for testing purposes on a
much smaller space for whatever reason. e.g. how are you going to really
test the restore function of the backup software discussed here?

Because it is smaller, testing is done much quicker and you do not even
need to reboot.
1) Install DSL
2) Install backupprogram
3) Do the backup
4) remove whatever
5) Look if restore works.

If it goes wrong it is nice to have it up and running very fast for a
second test with different parameters.
