Floppy Problem

Newbie here. I have a problem I need to fix before I can go any
further:

Toshiba Satellite 4100XDVD, 128MB's Ram, Suse 9.3 Pro with all the
updates.
KDE version 3.4.0 Level "b"
Release 2.6.11.4-21.11-default (Is this the kernel?)

I installed it and, once I disabled the parallel port (where it would
lock up when doing the final configuration), the install went fine.
Modem and sound card are both detected.

The big problem (at this moment) is the floppy. It works (I used it to
run Partition Magic). It shows up in Konqueror (KDE GUI) and also in
Yast>Hardware>Hardware Information.

When I go to access it from Konqueror an error message comes up:

"The process for the media protocol died unexpectantly"

and it stops trying to mount /dev/fd0

This is with a working floppy in the drive and under normal (not Root)
access.

This is the information I got from Hardware Information:

It *looks* like it's telling me the floppy controller is not
configured.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do now? It would be most
appreciated.

The strange (at least to me) part is that if I run the Suse 9.0 Live
CD it works fine..
