What is the output of:

xdpyinfo | grep XV

?

Kaffeine is still slightly fragile. Rapid playing with fast forward,
pause, stop, go, rewind, etc. buttons can freeze/crash it. This is
not a problem as it constitutes user abuse that I would only give it
in untrained monkey test mode.

Strange, never had any problems with xine (kaffeine) or mplayer.

A 3Ghz, 512MB jenuwine Intel Thingium. It's a new-ish box & I have
not had to lift the CPU fan yet to determine more detail. Frame
dropping is only noticeable when the kaffeine window size is
increased to 640x480 or beyond. Full screen (1280x1024) yields around
8 frames per second (guesstimate).

With that type of cpu power, you should be able to play any video
without having to drop frames. There is something wrong with your
setup. What video card do you have? Which driver are you using? It
could also be a lack of memory especially if you use KDE or Gnome- what
is the output of:

free
?

Also make sure that this line:

add /dev/rtc desktop

is in /etc/resmgr.conf. If not add it and relogin to X.

I have a 2.4GHz system with 1G of memory. All my videos, dvd's, vcd's
plays perfectly without haven't to drop frame.

BTW, I have acquired a number of short test videos, one of which I
have attached to this missive in the hope that it might make it
through the newsgroup posting process. If you don't "get it", take
something relaxing & repeat the viewing.

Yes, it came through OK. Funny cats. ;-)
