Re: Old problem never resolved. Time for another round.

Several years ago I tried to fix a problem with my scanner(s) not
working
and I gave up. So I thought I would try again. The scanners I have
are
Umax Astra 2200's. When I first got them we were all still using the
2.4.x
kernel versions and the scanners installed and worked flawlessly!
Then the
2.6.x kernel came around and both stopped working. I just was
guessing at
the time that this was a kernel problem but I still don't know. It is
for this reason that I have kept a version of windows (2000
Pro)installed on
one computer. I will be windows free once I solve this problem. To
this day I can still scan in windows but not in Gnu/Linux (SuSE 9.1 &
OpenSuse 10.0).

I would advise to save yourself a lot of trouble and get a newer
scanner. I once had a Umax Astra 2200 (scsi), which worked without
problem in SUSE 7.something, IIRC. But I was never happy with the scans
it delivered. IMO it is not worth the effort of trying to make it work.
Even a cheap Canon Lide20 gives much better scans.
After I killed my Umax by accidently connecting it to the wrong power
supply, I replaced it by an Epson, and have been very happy with that.
I'm sorry I can't help you with the problem.
