Suse 10.0 on IBM-T22 laptop

Four difficulties with IBM-T22 laptop..
1. ACPI doesn't work despite expected results in dmesg & Yast
acpi settings. It would not power down & could only be recovered
by disconnecting the AC & removing the battery. It dual boots
with Fedora-C1(FC1) which behaves correctly; the fix was to add
acpi=off to the Grub stanza in FC1.
2. I couldn't see a way to have Suse install Grub to Suse / & its
entry for
FC1 didn't work so the FC1 recovery Cd was used.
The chainloader route was tried to verifiy I hadn't copied an incorrect
stanza from Suse /grub/menu.1st but the power down problem
peristed until the above was added to Grub in FC1.
3. Previously Kpowersave was removed with Yast because of annoying
popups claiming it was running on battery.
It had no effect on the pwrdwn problem.
4. As expected the built in Lucent winmodem couldn't be made to work;
all is fine with a Xircom 56G-100 PCMIA card(ttyS3).
Kppp is used which I couldn't find without a search in Yast.
