Hi,
I've just installed Suse 9.3 on my acer laptop only to find out that X
will not work. Throws up some error. If i try # xorgconf ; a black
screen appear and nothing else happens. I have installed this on an
Acer Travelmate 4020, my graphics card is Mobile intel (R) 915 GM/ GMS
chipset family.
Would appriciate a quick response please. Thanks

Don't worry, a reinstall isn't necessary, provided we can find your drivers
for you. You can run 'yast' from the console.
Ok I searched for your model and found these two links below, they were a
lot of links, only one in the first two pages of results said that the 4020
can not run Linux, no one else seemed to have trouble. Notice the first has
an OS of Linux BE.
The links give us good details of what your hardware actually is. Bet your
socks there is a driver for both your graphics and display on your install
disc, all you have to do is *not* let it auto-detect, instead pick them off
the list. It was obvious why so many of the links showed success, Acer has
used very standard components in it's machines. Good on you Acer, there is
no real point in using perculiar hardware on a laptop as many do.

So, geokit, you made a good choice and now have every chance of success.
