Maybe try this. Boot to the #1 CD. Choose the Install Option. After you
choose the language the system will be analyzed. (this is from memory so
the exact steps may vary !!). Next choose the repair option.

I doubt that this will work. What I see is that he has a new working OS
SUSE 10.0, so there is nothing to repair.

But, even if that is necessary you can still start up with the #1 cd and
mount the file system(s) manually. Then you can save everything of
importance to a cd or zip drive or some other medium.

Most likely his partitions were somehow damaged and the new installation
of 10.0 has overwritten whatever there was to recover and now what they
mainly are, are empty chuncks of HD.
