By far the easiest option is to wait until Packman makes a rpm for 10.1.
Judging from how long it took to do for 10.0, you may have to wait a
month or two - it's probably not an overly requested package (even
though it is a great multimedia application).

Trying to compile vlc from source has in my experience been a major
pain; not really worth the trouble given that sooner or later it will be
available in an easy to install rpm!
