NX is a much better alternative, have a look ;) (see

I second this.
FreeNX comes with SUSE, it works like a charm, maybe ten times faster
than anything else. Works also over lowband network.

The FreeNX client, KNX is not as good as their own IMHO:

That one is more configurable.


Thanks for the pointer to FreeNX. I finally got around to installing it
and it looks pretty slick (and VERY fast over a wireless LAN.... still
have to try it over the internet from work). The installation
instructions from the madpenguin site worked perfectly, even for a linux
novice like me :)

Just one problem which is still causing me grief and which I still have
to figure out.... I want to display the CURRENT desktop display back to
the remote computer like I can with a VNC session. When I log in with
FreeNX it displays a NEW display and does not show me what is currently
displayed on the desktop machine.

Is there some way to make it do this? Or have I missed something
obvious again?


Haven't tested. I use it to log on a particular machine on my lan
from two other ones or the Internet. There's no local sessions
going on.

I leave the session suspended and come back later. This can be
done from another machine the next time.

This is particularly handy on this machine running torrent client.
