I finally got around to installing it (FreeNX) and it looks pretty
slick (and VERY fast over a wireless LAN.... still have to try it over
the internet from work).
Just tried it from work today and it looks like our IT department has
blocked the SSH port on the company firewall so I can't use FreeNX :(
So, I guess I'm back to my original question.... is there a VNC server
other than krdb that I can install on my linux box that doesn't keep the
CPU at 90+% because of polling from a remote (Windoze XP) client?
When I had Windoze XP with RealVNC installed on this box and I VNC'd in
from another WinXP box, the CPU load was quite low, so I know it should
be possible. I just need to figure out which server will work on linux
without loading up the CPU unnecessarily when a Windoze box logs in.
I'm open to any suggestions and installing linux on the other computer
is not an option (unfortunately). And there is zero chance of getting
our IT department to open up the SSH port in the firewall for me to use
FreeNX as they all preach from the book of Micro$oft :)

Presuming that:
https is allowed on your work location (which is usually the case) and
at home you are using nat on your adsl router (also not unusual) , you
could:
map port 443 (https) to 22 (ssh) on your router
and go play with ssh running on port 443 from work to home.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Paul.
