How to force updating of RPM package

Hello,
My setup: SuSE Linux 8.2
My problem: I need to get the latest version of openssh and openssl but
the RPM system does not go up to the latest version for SuSE 8.2. What
is the correct way to solve this without breaking dependencies?
If I resort to tar balls, I have all sorts of library issues (things
get put in the places different then where RPM places them) that I have
not clue how to solve.
Thanks in advance.
