How do I get OpenOffice database to connect to MySQL?
I'm running suse 10.1 on an AMD64 machine. I've tried it thru odbc and
java. I downloaded the java and odbc connectors from mysql, but can't
seem to get either to work.
Bob
As I haven't done this before this 'seems' to be the way.
Under Preferences go to OpenOffice.Org Base -> Connections -> Connection
Pooling Enabled -> Select the line
'org.openoffice.comp.drivers.MySQL.Driver', then select Enable pooling
for this driver at the bottom.
Try it. Let us know if that worked.
Hi Michael
I tried your suggestion which seemed to work, but I still can't get to an
existing mysql database.
When you open oo database the first step is Select Database--I picked
Connect ot an existing database and selected Mysql. Then you are give the
choice of Connect using ODBC or JDBC. Both are dead ends.
ODBC asks for the name of a data source and has a blank list. (The
unixODBC site says to run ODBCConfig which is not included in the suse
unixODBC package.)
JDBC can't load the com.mysql.jdbc.Driver. I downloaded the
mysql-connector-java tar file and put the jar file in the CLASSPATH, but
it still doesn't work.
Thanks for your suggestion.
Bob
So, from what I'm hearing you're going to 'allow' me to learn something
today ?? Thanks !! This is exactly how I learned so much about
Gnu/Linux in the first place, by reading usenet and trying to do as others
have done....As this is a holiday in the U.S. I have some house work to do
today but I will try to find the time to create a MySQL database and access
it from OO. Oh, oh....I feel a bit of my brain growing. Or perhaps that's
just my head swelling ??? LOL
Get back to you in a few hours.
