The path is wrong, but synaptic is still nowhere to be found on that
server. AFAIK, i guess it's not to be found on any official SUSE

Why don't you use Smart. All I hear about it is just good.

After many tries I stopped trying to get synaptic working. Perhaps someone
with better skills than I will make a newer version that works on 10.1 ??
Anyway, if you want a gui front-end for apt-get the best you can do for
now, after installing apt (apt-debuginfo, apt-devel, apt-libs,
apt-server ??) is to use KPackage. This is a standard 10.1 package. And
it works. Must admit I too like synaptic but, alas, it doesn't work here.
I even went so far as to get patches (3)to allow synaptic to work with
gcc-4.1, but I don't think I did that (patch) correctly !!
Maybe some other time I'll try that again. See if you can find those
patches. It wasn't easy !!!
