After many tries I stopped trying to get synaptic working. Perhaps
someone with better skills than I will make a newer version that works on
10.1 ?? Anyway, if you want a gui front-end for apt-get the best you can
do for now, after installing apt (apt-debuginfo, apt-devel, apt-libs,
apt-server ??) is to use KPackage. This is a standard 10.1 package.
And
it works. Must admit I too like synaptic but, alas, it doesn't work here.

I even went so far as to get patches (3)to allow synaptic to work with
gcc-4.1, but I don't think I did that (patch) correctly !!

Maybe some other time I'll try that again. See if you can find those
patches. It wasn't easy !!!

:-)

Never quit trying :)
I have submitted a patch to
http://savannah.nongnu.org/patch/?group=synaptic that allows compilation
of the latest version with gcc 4.1. It's pretty simple. I have also
prepared a spec file for it. I now have synaptic running and it's much
better than any mono/.NET infected package manager GUI.
Can I post attachments in this group?

Unfortunately, NO !! Perhaps you could post to a server somewhere. Also, a
note on how to use the patch file would be helpful.

It's probably good that you can't post attachments for numerous reason
including trolls and all sorts of other crap I could think of. Let's keep
the clutter to a minimum !!

Isn't the google groups effect already producing lots of top posting Windoze
trash anyway ??
