I have 2 7800GTX video cards that work great in SLI mode in Windows.
However, in the same box under Suse 10.1 I have no 3D after installing
the 1.0-8762 drivers. I had no trouble installing the driver, except
when it came to working with the x server. It flashed a couple of times
after I installed the driver and started x and it said that I was on
Display 2 and that the configuration was on Display 1, even though I my
monitor is plugged into the DVI jack that is used for my SLI setup for
Windows.
When I try to run glxgears, this is what I get:
Kenny@Archimedes:~> glxgears
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
glxgears: Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual.
This is what I get when I try to configure SaX after I installed the
drivers then run "sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia"
SaX: no X-Server is running.
Sax: will start own server if needed

SaX: startup
Then my command prompt.
Just for grins and giggles I plugged my monitor into the other 3 DVI
ports and got no video output (wasn't really expecting any, just
thought that I would try).
According to my logs X is trying to use 'nv' instead of 'nvidia'. It
looks as if for some reason the Nvidia drivers aren't "taking". Which
makes sense since I can't even get to the point to test my display then
save it in SaX.
Any help would be appreciated.
Make sure the Kernel sources, make, and gcc are installed, Download the
latest driver, install with
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762-pkg1.run -q.
After the driver is installed, configure X.Org with
sax2 -m 0=nvidia. That's the number 0, not the letter O.
Where did the -r come from?
