I tried for the last few days to get help from Nvidia, but they don't
seem to care. So I'm going to try here now.

I have 2 7800GTX video cards that work great in SLI mode in Windows.
However, in the same box under Suse 10.1 I have no 3D after installing
the 1.0-8762 drivers. I had no trouble installing the driver, except
when it came to working with the x server. It flashed a couple of times
after I installed the driver and started x and it said that I was on
Display 2 and that the configuration was on Display 1, even though I my
monitor is plugged into the DVI jack that is used for my SLI setup for
Windows.

When I try to run glxgears, this is what I get:
Kenny@Archimedes:~> glxgears
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
glxgears: Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual.

This is what I get when I try to configure SaX after I installed the
drivers then run "sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia"

SaX: no X-Server is running.
Sax: will start own server if needed

SaX: startup

Then my command prompt.

Just for grins and giggles I plugged my monitor into the other 3 DVI
ports and got no video output (wasn't really expecting any, just
thought that I would try).

According to my logs X is trying to use 'nv' instead of 'nvidia'. It
looks as if for some reason the Nvidia drivers aren't "taking". Which
makes sense since I can't even get to the point to test my display then
save it in SaX.

Any help would be appreciated.

Had the same problem with 7900s, among many others. In
/etc/X11/xorg.conf edit both drivers from "nv" to "nvidia".

Tried that, now I have no video. Just shows the SuSE 10.1 boot screen
for a little bit then goes to black screen.

I, too, had that problem. The culprit turned out to be one of the
kde's, but I don't remember which one. Maybe kdebase3 or kdebase3-kdm. I
solve the problem by starting at level 3, invoking yast and reinstalling
some of the kde's. But you might try reinstalling kdebase3 and
kdebase3-kdm first. Had to do it again when I upgraded to kde 3.5.3 [grin]

Wow, you had this problem after you installed the nvidia drivers?

I'm not sure of the sequence. Nonetheless, soon after installing
the nvidia driver and manually convincing SUSE that it must
use that driver, along with the correct monitor, the blank screen
appeared. In protest, perhaps. [grin] The display is fine now, but sax2,
yast's "graphic card and monitor" and "mouse" modules do not load (never
have). Same is true for root or user's graphic logout. I use
konsole--->su---halt or reboot. [grin] You just have to love SUSE 10.1!
