I'm happy for you. No, really, I am. For my part, my machine is still
mute. I've upgraded every piece of software I could find to upgrade.
(Oddly, after the install, YOU claimed there was nothing to upgrade. I
knew that couldn't be true. ZEN updater wanted to upgrade a couple of
things, including the w32codecs but kept falling over. I finally updated
everything with Smart.) I reinstalled Alsa. I deleted and reinstalled the
sound card - again. I tweaked its little settings. Nada.
Alas, the sound card in my old machine is no use - it's EISA, not PCI. I
may have one last shot with another machine, otherwise I'll have to live
without sound until Novell fixes the problem or I get a postal order from
my Gran and can afford a new sound card.
Damn. Just remembered. My Gran's dead.

Sorry. I am sure you will find the solution. Kaffeine works again for me and
kmix displays all options again, showing that sound is well under control.
May I ask you 2 questions :
1) was the sound working before the upgrade to 10.1 ?
2) Have you tried to play a song with xmms (which uses oss and not alsa),
and xine and alsaplayer. Are they all unable to play ?
Because if it was working on 9.3, it will work again.
