Network and smb issues...

Hi there,
My SUSE 10.1 box is connected to my DSL router on eth0 and to
my Kubuntu box on eth1. I was happily browsing the net from the
Kubuntu box after configuring my network setup to allow eth1
to route thru to the net, but now after successfully setting
up some basic smb shares on each machine to access the other
my Kubuntu box cannot get thru to the internet!
Why should the routed internet access stop just because I set
going some smb shares?
No networking settings were touched, only smb.conf was touched
on each machine. I can ping from each end, but despite setting
up the route again as per before I still cannot get internet
thru to the other machine. The smb shares work fine, although
I still need password auth despite setting security to 'share'!
This *** should be easier! All I have is 2 computers connected
via 100Mbit LAN, and one of them connected to my router. The
internet access worked fine this morning, then I setup some
shares without touching any networking settings, and then POOF!
My internet access through the second machine is gone! The net
is still fine on the 1st, and I can ping between the 2 machines,
but somehow SUSE is not allowing the 2nd machine a route thru
to the net! I switched the firewall OFF, and that made not any
difference.
SUSE has a completely different setup for networking config
than does Kubuntu. I cannot find a /etc/network/interfaces
on SUSE, which was the key file on Kubuntu to setup LAN access.
I could suggest the SUSE way is fscked...
Sorry for the rant, I'm normally patient on matters like this,
but today my patience has been severely tested. Does anyone
have an idea what I can do to fix this complete load of crap?
