Good point. The reason I would like to put OpenSUSE on it is because I
would
be using the laptop for developing Linux apps. The main reason I'm
considering the MacBook Pro is because of the hardware it offers (core
duo 2.0+ GHz, good battery life?, 6-pin firewire, slim, light?, etc.).
I've been searching for similar brand name and generic PC-based laptops,
but I can't seem to find one that meets my requirements. Perhaps you know
of one I should take a look at?
If you're a developer, you'll be all too used to fiddling about making
software works correctly - so it perhaps wont be as bad as I first made
out!
I like some of the Sony Vaio laptops, they have up to 8 hours battery life
in some cases, but I imagine you would need to tweak the cpu core voltages
through a downloadable linux package. If you're willing to sacrifice an
internal DVD-cdrw combo drive, you can definitely get some laptops with
great battery life, whilst being lightweight. It's important to do a lot
of research into the laptop you wish to buy - but it's probably one of the
hardest items to buy these days, there's just so many factors that make a
good laptop to each individual.
I've never sat in front of a MAC.
I just wondered with Alvin's question, would Live linux work on a MAC, I
don't think I have ever seen it mentioned. But a nice alternative for Alvin
might have been something like Mandriva's Globetrotter, a bit like a keyfob
linux but larger drive.
Then I was wondering, what is MAC's format, is it one of the ext's?
Gosh I have a lot of questions, but of all the systems in the world, MAC is
the only one I haven't touched (which probably explains why it isn't
broken). However, I did fancy a diddy little MAC laptop I saw in PCworld.
