And not just hardware features. OS X offers a complete X Window System
implementation:

So, one could if one wished purchase a Macbook Pro and use it
effectively as a FreeBSD machine only (however, there is so much cool
stuff included with the Aqua interface, that it would be a waste to
do so).
Almost any free open source software application can quickly and easily
installed (and kept updated) using DarwinPorts:
