I had that problem with 7.something and an early 2.4 kernel. No problem with
10.1 on an ABUS socket 939 / NVidia Force4 MB. The one thing that didn't
work was a USB Winmodem; I got into 32/64 conflicts trying to build slmodem
and just plugged in a real modem instead of resolving the issue.

It's SuSE 10.0 64 bit. Have tried all combinations of ACPI on and off,
including specifying acpi=off etc. on boot.
