I would like to install Suse 10.1 on an old lifebook B2130. What would I

boot from CD. Any help appreciated.

I have no idea what your system is. I will asume that you knwo how to
configure the floppy to be bootable with grub or lilo.

First you need to make a partition on the HD that can hold the data and
still have enough space for an installation. If you have a smaller HD,
you can just use CD1. It might work with the boot.iso as well.

As example I will use /dev/hdc for the portable HD when in the desktop
and hda when in the portable.

Make 3 partitions on hdc. 1 where you will place swap, one where you
will place / and one where you place /home later. /home will become hda3
and is hdc3 now.

Mount /dev/hdc3 as /mnt. Download makeSUSEdvd and go to the directory
where the iso is and run `makeSUSEdvd -i -t /mnt`
Look at the output at the end and edit the floppy so that everything
points in the right direction.

Most likely for GRUB it needs to be:
title SUSE 10.0 Installation
root (hd0,2)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz
initrd /boot/initrd

(HD 0 = first drive, ,2 is thirs partition)

Put the HD in the portable and boot. If all else fails, you can point to
the above things when in grub. Selcet the correct hd and then look for
vmlinuz and initrd.

Start the installation. You will need to edit the partition as not to
overwrite the partition that holds the data. Mount the third partition
as /home, but DON'T format it.
get on with the installation. If you have used only CD1 with
makeSUSEdvd, you can only do the minimal installation. This will make
things a little bit harder.
When you do it with the boot.iso, you can use NFS (if set up properly on
your desktop) or FTP or whatever to install to wherever the data is.

They say pesticides have been linked to low sperm counts.
In my opinion if you have bugs down there that are so bad
you need to use a pesticide, you're not gonna get laid anyway.
