I would suggest to do it another way. 1. copy original /usr to
/newpartition 2. boot through a (anykind) live cd
3. rename original /usr to /usr-something 4. edit your /etc/fstab to map
the /usr to /newpartition 5. reboot
Now you still can access original /usr in /usr-something

No, I am afraid I can't use this. It is simple, straightfoward, easy,
will accomplish just what I wanted. However, I did not think of it, and
therefore can't use it. :-)
