Re: Questions to SUSE experts..

Hi All,

I decided to install SUSE on my PC and have some questions:

1-)I have windows XP on one partition c: but with enough room to spare
(with more than 40 GB for SUSE) will YaST take care of the dual boot
installation with no problems? any advice?

Yes. But always make backups, because even if SUSE makes no mistakes,
you might. ;-)

2-)will I be able to share files between the two OS?

See that you have a FAT32 partition to share the files you like.

3-)I'm planning on getting the "SUSE Linux 10.1 by Novell" from
Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/158298302X/ref=pd_rvi_gw_2/103-6654046-3484611?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=229534

is it worth the money or any other suggestions? (as a reference book
with the distro DVD).

If it is your first installation of Linux, it is still worth the price.
If you are more daring, you can just download the DVD from openSUSE and
use that.

4-)I use c/c++ on UNIX, will I be able to write/compile code after
installation or I still need to download anything else?
(I mean do GCC, GNU debugger, etc,.. come with this distro)

It comes with the distro. Not sure if it is on the CD's or DVD's or not,
but adding installation sources will give you all that you need.

5-)anything to keep in mind?

Yes, http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm

6-)finally, how SUSE is pronounced?

That depends on what language you are speaking. I pronounce it as SUSE.
In the end it does not matter. Several pronouciations on
http://en.opensuse.org/FOSDEM with the different presentations.
