Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop and with suse 10, everything worked
right out of the box. Suse 10.1 finds the hardware correctly (both
ethernet + wireless) and the hardware is (Yast/Hardware information):
1) Broadcom Corporation BCM4401 100Base-T (Rev 01)
2) Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter
Update:
I wont talk about 1), because I'm only interested in getting my wireless
working - that is number 2).
YaST2 says:
Device Name: wlan-bus-pci-0000:02:03.0
Started automatically on cable connection
IP address assigned using DHCP
My hostname is: "laptop",
I have "Change Hostname via DHCP" enabled,
Domain name = "site"
"Update Name Servers and Search List via DHCP" enabled,
Hardware details: Module name: ipw2100, no additional options,
DHCP options: "Request broadcast response" is disabled,
"DHCP Client identifier" is an empty field,
"Hostname to Send" = "AUTO",
"Additional addresses" is empty.
Question: eth0 = wired connection. Shouldn't I have something called
"eth1" for instance, so I could write "ifup eth1" and then the wireless
network starts?
Please help.
If I right-click "KNetworkManager" in the bottom right, I see that
wireless is enabled but "Show networks" shows empty "Trusted" and
"Untrusted" lists...
Best regards
Martin Jørgensen
Look at www.madwifi.org for the drivers for your wireless card they are no
longer included in suse10.1 there is a repository you can add then you can
use yast/smart to install it then all should be well ... I also have an
i8600 but I've upgraded my wireless to the dell truemobile 1300 b/g
wireless card so I use ndiswrapper.. but from everything I've read it all
points to that drive/package madwifi ... I just went to www.madwifi.org and
on the top right there is some info just for suse 10.1 users ...
