Re: Root directory filled up . . .

I've been using Linux since year 2000 but I will admit I am a novice at best. I installed 10.1 3 weeks ago with 10GB root and 30GB home directory. My question is, is 10GB for root too small? Are there any log files that may be increasing (I am suspecting this . . .) and need to be to be addressed? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

udev 633M 160K 633M 1% /dev
/dev/hda8 28G 1.1G 27G 4% /home

Thanks for ALL responses. the (/var)log files were OK but I did not think to look at the tmp directory. When I loaded 10.1, I installed the "Kitchen Sink". I mean everything. I backed up my /home directory and will re-install 10.1; only the things I will use. This time I will keep an eye on what is going on.

I copied/pasted all tips and commands posted. I keep a file called "useful commands" and continually update it. I get most of this from this group. Thanks again.
