How do I install RPM's on Suse 10.1?
Well, I use the Konquer file manager, and navigate to the folder
with them in. If you try to open the rpm by clicking on it, you
will find a button offering to install it with YAST.
Sure enough, the button appears in Konqueror upon clicking a RPM
file, but sad to say as it is, that well-known procedure does not
function in Suse 10.1. What happens is that Yast2 asks for the
installation CD/DVD, and installation of the individual RPM file
miscarries.
No, it is not possible to add a directory on the hard drive to the
Yast sources. That would have solved the problem.

fwiw I now find (independently) that I have this same or similar
problem in 10.0, which troubles me. I avoided going to 10.1 because
10.0 worked fine for my current needs, and now I still appear to have
bumped into a problem. As a matter of curiosity, I have been looking
at other distros, but I may need to do this more seriously for the
future.
For the record, after a few more experiments, my conclusion so far is
that the konquerer button 'Install package with yast' does not work.
It still does work for a suse 9.3 installation, but not for my current
suse 10.0.
However, if the file is in say, a download directory, and this directory
is included in the yast installation sources, then the file can be
installed easily via (yast) 'Software Management', as it could be in the
past anyway.
