I've tried Suse 8.2 and a previous one, on both occasions some
supposedly supported hardware took many days of fiddling around to get
going. When I tried to download progs from the net and install them,
the process was so involved and unintuitive (to me) I gave up.
Essentially I never want to need to learn to use a command line (glad
when it went out with MSdos). Now I'm sure people will call me a
"flatfish" etc. but I'm just an average home user who isn't really
interested in hobby computing. Is Suse ready for me or do I have to
wait another few years?
I have found that I prefer the Debian approach to package management
because it seems to deal better with software dependencies and
installation. I use the synaptic GUI package management tool on (K)Ubuntu
and find it quite pleasant to work with - DISCLAIMER - I've not really
used SUSE much for quite some time - there may be a port of kpackage for
it - I've found that useful on my Gentoo system.
Thanks, but I can manage my package just fine. If you mean installing
progs, then unless I can install 95% of Linux progs off the net and
have them running with a few mouse clicks, I won't waste time
installing Suse.
