That's was not what I meant, my apologies.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'meaningfull (sic) customization' but if it
is partitions and filesystems then fair enough, install time is best,
however even they can be altered later. Everything else is easily
changed. My point however was for the OP to do a default install to try

"Easily" is very relative. It would be for you and I, but not for
someone who obviously doesn't even know how init(8) works.
If by customisation you just mean changing some icons and colors, then
we have very different understandings of the word, as for me it starts
right after I load the DVD and reboot.

Obviously there are problems with the OPs installation and I was giving
advice to get past that. I suspect however he just wanted a moan!

Agreed.
Maybe that would've gotten him past his trouble, but I seriously doubth
it, as he seems utterly unable to comprehend the whole "this is not
Windows, or Slack, or whatever else" concept.
