Hi all,
I followed the Jem Report guide, to try to get 3D support working in Suse
10.1
(download latest ati drivers, install them, run aticonfig to point to new
xorg file, run sax2 to set 0=fglrx)
However, now it wont boot to a gui, just straight to a shell login.
This is what I've tried to correct it, with no luck.
- changed aticonfig to point its initial path to the original xorg file
- uninstalled the rpm package that the ati driver installed.
- tried to run sax2 (which wont work as it cant find an Xserver
Any suggestions at all will be gratefully tried. I think I might need to
remove the 'fglrx' module from the kernel, but I dont know what the
opposite of the insmod command is, and I don't want to do something I dont
understand.
If the worst comes to the worst, and I need to reinstall, another
question.
My original installation was over the network, with just one CD. Can I
point Suse to a location on my hard drive where its files are, rather than
having to download all 2gbs again? If so where does it keep its files?
Many thanks, hope someone can help. If I get it back up, I'll stop messing
around with it!
Jamie
I upgraded from 9.3 to get the v4l and 3D fglrx of 10.1.
First, are you getting error messages?
If you've uninstalled the proprietary fglrx driver then you can add the
default back .
Login as a Superuser or root and
from the commandline:
root@linux: /> Init 3
run sax2 from the commandline
root@linux: /> /usr/sbin/sax2
to get back a basic config and install the default ati fglrx driver
I fairly certain I ran this sequence:
root@linux: /> sh ati-driver-installer-8.27.10-x86.run --buildpkg SuSE/SUSE101-IA32
root@linux: /> rpm -ivh fglrx_6_9_0_SUSE101-8.27.10-1.i386.rpm
root@linux: /> ldconfig
root@linux: /> aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf # sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx
.
