I going to try to install the Nvidia video driver using YaST like the
instructions on the Nvidia site suggest.

3. SUSE LINUX 10.1-IA32 / SLES10-IA32 / SLED10-IA32

It is recommended to use YaST for installation of the NVIDIA
driver. There are several reasons for this. First, it's
simple. Second, and this is the most important one, you won't need to
recompile the nvidia kernel module after a kernel update.

Update your Kernel via YOU (YaST Online Update). Use

YaST -> Software -> Change installation Source -> Add
X11
Protocol: FTP
Server Name: : download.nvidia.com
Directory on Server: novell

to add the NVIDIA ftp server as additional installation source.
Now use

YaST -> Software -> Install and Delete Software

to install the NVIDIA driver. Select the following packages:

x11-video-nvidia3. SUSE LINUX 10.1-IA32 / SLES10-IA32 / SLED10-IA32

x11-video-nvidia
nvidia-gfx-kmp-"kernel-flavor"

"kernel-flavor" depends on your installed kernel. Check with
"uname -r" for installed default/smp/bigsmp kernel. Use "sax2 -r"
for X.Org configuration.

I added the ftp as an installation source, and now I'm stuck ...

I see thre packages listed
nvidia-gfx-kmp-bigsmp
nvidia-gfx-kmp-default
nvidia-gfx-kmp-smp

The output of my uname command is...

john@linux-d13z:~> uname -r
2.6.16.21-0.13-smp
john@linux-d13z:~>

Wich package ahould I use? I'm using a GeForce FX 5200 Ultra. The
x11-video-nvidia I see, so that i no problem.

Thanx again for all your help.

John

since the output of uname -r is 2.6.16.21-0.13-smp, use nvidia-gfx-kmp-smp

Thanks, That's what I thought, but it seemed too easy. I post back when
I'm sucessful.
