I have been using dhcp for some time with a wireless broadband router

not been able to run dhcp direcly thru the DSL modem. It only seems to
work when I hook the router up between the modem and computer. I ran
tcpdump and save two events on disk and have included it on this query.
The DSL company I am using is verizon.net. Can anyone make suggestions
as I have read so meny books and howto's on the subject with no luck.
I have in the past (over 2 years ago) used dhcp directly thru the modem.
but now no luck.

This has nothing to do with whatever you just posted. It
would be more useful if you posted the settings of your router.
Has your cablemodem providers policy changed in regards to allowing more
than 1 device on their cheapo residential service? Do they only allow one
MAC address, for instance, to connect to the cablemodem?
Show what works first, and then you'll answer your own question. Some
routers grab the MAC of the Cablemodem itself and clone it, so it can pass
traffic. Look at this first.
DHCP got squat to do with it. I'm sure you aren't paying more for a
business connection, so static/DHCP won't be an issue for you. Good luck.
