I only have a winmodem in my machine, so under linux I have to access
the internet via my Apple airport modem. I instruct the Airport to
dial-up from my Mac, and once connected my SuSE 9.3 Linux box is

I have in the past been able to download email to my linux box from a
server through this routing (although I've intentionally disabled it),
and I am able to ping from the command line and access the web through
firefox. I am unable, however, to successfully specify a mirror as a
software source under Yast trying both http and ftp protocols with
appropriate mirrors. I know the syntax can be very fussy, and I've
permuted every possibility I can think of (e.g. regarding forward
slashes or not in the installation directory, and looking up the IP
address for the mirror and using it instead of depending on DNS). I'm
stuck, but desperately need to update some packages on my machine
before I can install third party software, as some things were
apparently missed the first time around (e.g. "gtk-config").
When you say you can access the web through firefox is this by name or
by ip?
