Two NIC Configuration Help Needed

Hi:
I have a PC running SuSE 10.1. I am fairly new to SuSE but so far it is
great.
The PC has two wired NIC's. I have one set to a public IP address that
we "lease" (68.xxx.xxx.xxx) and the second one in on an private internal
LAN (192.168.1.xxx supplied by DHCP).
Both cards apparently are functioning properly. The public IP card can
browse the Internet and www.wahtismyip.com returns the public IP
address. Note also that Steve Gibson's site shows port 22 open and
"sees" me at the public IP address
What I want to do is have the PC on the public side to be a SFTP server
and be to access it remotely via VNC. On the private LAN side, I want to
use it as a SAMBA server to the internal LAN.
Right now, I can access SFTP and control via VNC from the private LAN
side, but all the public IP side does is provide Internet access. The
SAMBA functions on the internal LAN side function perfectly.
This is my first effort with multiple LAN cards in the same computer, so
forgive my ignorance here. Can I have SFTP and VNC access via both
interfaces? If not, how can I configure the system to use SFTP and VNC
on the public IP Interface.
I tried bringing down the private LAN card thinking maybe the SFTP and
VNC functions would work through the other card. But no luck.
Also, even though Gibson's site and www.wahtismyip.com see me at the
public address, pinging it gets no response. But that may be some SuSE
service I need to run to be "visible" to a ping.
Note -- I have shutdown the firewall during all the above testing and
will configure it after I get it functioning correctly.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Jess
