I have 2 boxes...one has winxp on it, the other has SuSE 10.1 and windows
Server 2003 on it. I am wanting to network them via crossover (patch)
cable in order to work on my networking skills. I want to run the xp box
into the SuSE Linux box and get on the internet with both boxes... I have
a linksys router but I don't see the need to use it. What all will I
need, SAMBA? XINE? please let me know if you have done this before. I
would really appreciate it!

Have a look at this step by step guide:
http://www.tweakhound.com/linux/samba/page_1.htm
It shows you (with screenshots) how to setup and enable networking and file
sharing between Suse 10.1 and Windows xp using Samba.
