I do the same. Either in none, or in all.

Most are out of a desire by manufacturers to keep there captive
users..captive.

I suspect that it is more a case of illegal contract terms with m$ not
allowing them to support Linux.

There might be some cases. However I believe most would like not give
support to ANY os, because it costs money. They are somehow 'forced' to
give support and they thus give support to the largest community.

And as long as they don't sell less due to this. yes, they could sell
more, but how much more and for how long? Look at banks. There are still
banks out there that say: Hey, you must use IE, otherwise we don't
support it.
As long as enough people take that and they make enough money of it, why
should they care?

I compare it a bit to a pub where they sell cheap wine. I asked why they
did that and he told me that he makes more per glass when he sells
cheaop wine. I explained that with a bit better wine, he would sell more
wine. As the profit on wine is higher then on other drinks he sells,
like beer, he would make more money.

His reaction was: So I sell less beer and make less profit per glass on
the wine?

Yep, but your net profit will be higher, because of the higher margin
you get on wine and the higher volume. That extra money you can invest
in free peanuts. Which will make people thirstier and thus you sell even
more.

"Wait!" he said. "So I sell less beer, make less profit per glass of
wine, stop making money on peanuts I now sell and have more to do so I
need to hire more staff? To make money out of this is unpossible. You
must be drunk. Have another Jagermeister on me."

OK, I probably was drunk, but that only means I was telling the truth.
