Hello,

I've installed SuSE 10.1 from CD and specified to wipe any existing
data on the hard disk. The pc had grub with dual boot for SuSE 9 and
WinXP previously.

The install work fine until it comes to the point where it has to biit
from the hard disk. The pc reboots but then won't read from the hard
disk.

If I boot from cd and go in to Rescue I can mount the hard disk and I
can see that everything is installed ok. grub's menu.lst file is fine
and cfdisk /dev/hda shows that /dev/hda1 is bootable.

Any clues as to what the problem may be here?

Thanks

Glenn

You can try a grub-install
$ grub-install --recheck /dev/hda
$ grub-install --root-directory=/boot hda

http://orgs.man.ac.uk/documentation/grub/grub_16.html

But I'd really just delete all partitions on the hda and reinstall the
SuSE 10.1. Nothing boots it may be master boot record on the hd, ie,
fdisk /mbr .

I've done the following:

Boot from 10.1 cd and selected Rescue Typed repair on the optoin line
mnt /mnt /dev/hda1
grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/boot /dev/hda1

when I run this I get a message saying: /dev/hda1 does not have a
corresponding BIOS drive

Sorry did U review the grub link?

Did U?
boot CD
linux rescue
chroot /mnt/sysimage
grub-install /dev/hda

Also when you installed Suse 10.1 did you use the manual partition
to delete all partitions, assign a / partition then format the hd?
IRC a reboot is required when you delete the partitions.
