I've done it, and things worked well enough. You'll want to update during the installation when it's offered. Once it's running, switch all the built-in update management off and uses smart. I like these instructions for getting it to work:

Not every idea coming from Novell is sweetness and light, and I maintain they really messed up YaST. Don't use it for package management.
